Last week, we headed over to Berlin for the veritable fashion gorging that is Bread & Butter (BBB). Apart from having a ton of parties to create a festival like vibe, the trade event showcases the very best upcoming and established streetwear and denim brands.

The event, which celebrated its 10th birthday this year, traditionally kicks off on Tuesday night with a launch party and this season was no exception. A ‘Super Future’ theme was articulated through mechanical horses, abstract sculptures and electro house music.

But obviously we were there to do more than just party! Some of the key trends from the show included; prints incorporating animals – ranging from comic styles to lifelike sketched styles, an abundance of checks – particularly in menswear and neon accents in clothing and accessories.

We have covered neon a couple of times before on the blog, and the trend looks set to continue. Neon was a key theme for the SS11 catwalk shows and after a brief hiatus during the AW11/12 collections continued to shine throughout the Resort 12 collections. At BBB, neon was mainly used as an accent colour, making it a more commercial for streetwear brands.

Neon accents were shown by brands including Strenesse, Closed and Codello, while accessories labels Lola Ramona, Melissa and Bensimon went all out with their neon hues. We also spotted a couple of event goers rocking neon accessories, like the girl above.

Online, the buzz surrounding neon has grown steadily since the resort shows earlier this year, while sentiment seems to have plateaued for now. We predict that it will pick up again next summer as the SS12 street collections hit stores.
