How Bioworld International Turned Days of Trend Research Into Minutes With EDITED’s MCP

Bioworld International is a global brand merchandising platform. It licenses, develops, and manufactures products that help brands and retailers build lasting consumer engagement across a wide sales and distribution network. Bioworld has been an EDITED customer for nearly ten years, and it’s among the first brands putting EDITED’s MCP into production inside its own systems – a bet Deepak made to compound EDITED’s data with the agentic tools he’d already built in-house.

An MCP, or Model Context Protocol, lets an AI tool connect directly to a company’s other data sources through one link instead of a pile of one-off integrations. For Bioworld’s CIO, Deepak Agrawal, that meant he could connect EDITED’s MCP straight into Bioworld’s internal systems, including its sales data, product lifecycle management (PLM) platform, and Wrike project data turning trend discovery and assortment whitespace analysis into a single query instead of a multi-day pull.

As Agrawal puts it: “It used to take me days to pull this together. Now I can ask the question, and it pulls the data across all our platforms in a couple of minutes, with the analysis itself taking about 30 seconds. I’m still not going to just trust whatever the AI hands back. We’ve built human toll gates into the process, but the pulling and the analysis itself is fast.”

At a glance:

  • Time to insight: multi-day manual pulls → a single query answered in minutes
  • Systems unified: EDITED, internal sales and PLM data, Wrike, and Amazon market signals in one workflow
  • Data behind it: EDITED’s Competitive Market Data, Trend & Research, and Messaging & Promotions, drawn from 90,000+ brands and retailers and 5 billion+ SKUs tracked daily across 120+ countries

Why Build Rather Than Wait

Deepak was already building his own internal agentic tools well before EDITED’s MCP existed. When it shipped, he connected it directly as a plugin inside ChatGPT, a natural next step rather than a reason to start over.

“I’m not building tools with EDITED. I’m connecting EDITED’s MCP into our internal enterprise knowledge platform. The value is in compounding it with the data we already have.”

From Insight to Executive Decision

The MCP gives Bioworld’s agent access to EDITED’s Competitive Market Data, Trend & Research, and Messaging & Promotions, wired directly into an agentic workflow alongside internal tools. Deepak describes the shift as moving away from a pile of disconnected, single-purpose tools and toward one platform that brings EDITED, Amazon signals, internal sales data, and PLM data together in one place.

As Agrawal explains: “We’ve gone from fragmented AI, a different vertical tool for every job, to bringing all of that into one horizontal platform, so the team can focus on the higher-margin SKUs and line them up against what the market is actually doing.”

The clearest proof point so far came during a live demo to Bioworld’s executive team. Deepak asked the system a real merchandising question: what to sell to Ross for the Christmas season, checked against Amazon market trends. The workflow triangulated data across sources and produced a recommendation. Deepak has since begun training the same workflow to explore non-licensed design concepts for accounts like Urban Outfitters, an early, forward-looking use case rather than a finished process.

Why the Data Has to Be Right

For Deepak, EDITED’s data quality was central to the decision to build on it. It sharpens market signals for specific categories, retailers, and product types, and it helps the system stay lined up with, or flag a departure from, Bioworld’s own internal data, so the team can refocus a project the moment a market trend shifts. What made the EDITED MCP worth wiring in, Deepak says, wasn’t the protocol itself; it was the retailer- and category-level market signal behind it, the kind of trend and competitive data Bioworld couldn’t generate on its own.

“The goal is to train the system to give governed, sensible results, not just noise.”

Asked what would happen if the MCP disappeared tomorrow, Deepak didn’t hesitate. Market data would still be there, but it would lose most of its value, and the team would be back to copying EDITED data into other tools by hand.

“That’s just not the most effective way to do it.”

Advice for Other CIOs

Deepak’s advice to other CIOs weighing the same path is practical: the MCP is a connector, not a replacement for the modeling and training work that still has to happen in-house.

“If you’ve already got some AI maturity and other datasets to bring to it, this absolutely provides value. But if you’re new to AI, put guardrails in place first and know what you want out of the data. Otherwise you’ll just get irrelevant signals.”

Bioworld’s path assumes a team already has agentic infrastructure to plug into. For CIOs earlier in that journey, EDITED also offers AskEDITED, a conversational interface to the same underlying dataset that requires no custom integration to get started: the same market intelligence, without needing to build anything first.

Bioworld’s next step is extending the same workflow across more retail partners and categories, with EDITED’s MCP acting as the connective layer between market intelligence and Bioworld’s own systems.

About EDITED

EDITED gives retail and brand teams a single, governed source of market intelligence (Competitive Market Data, Trend & Research, and Messaging & Promotions) built on 90,000+ brands and retailers and 5 billion+ SKUs tracked daily across 120+ countries. Teams like Bioworld connect that intelligence directly into their own agentic workflows through EDITED’s MCP; teams without an existing agentic setup can access the same dataset conversationally through AskEDITED.
