The success of that Zara dress caused a knock-on effect on retailers’ product assortments. Midi lengths became the covetable shape for skirts and dresses, increasing by 75% within each category. Fabrics and patterns that worked well for this silhouette included polka dots, animal print, and satin.
For menswear, colored denim in bottoms and outerwear combined grew 28% YoY. For women, white jeans were a top-performing style, despite a slight decline in newness YoY. Neutral hues were favored for denim jackets with a 23% uptick.
After a strong performance in Q1, the boilersuit continued to thrive. Topshop stocked the most inventory, with steady arrivals from March to May. This item saw a replenishment rate of 28% making it a hot contender for the fall season. In menswear, cargo pants, and shorts emerged as a trend to watch. The ‘IT’ print continued to reign for summer 2019 with a 226% increase in women’s tops and dresses YoY. Despite this significant growth, animal print dresses had one of the lowest percentages of full price sell out for the season, suggesting the pattern has hit a saturation point within this category.
Highlighter hues were the colors of choice for women’s swimwear as neons grew 63% YoY within this category. For menswear, primary colors were used to give windbreakers a street style nod while color-blocking (favored for polos) increased 106% YoY.
